PHASE ONE – JUNE 2007

The History Museum Café is planned to open the week of June 20 –23, 2007, in conjunction with DEC Ministries 50 Anniversary “Home Coming” Celebration. The History Museum Café’s display plan will highlight the Temple’s History in relationship to:

1)     The history of its former congregation, Temple B’nai Abraham who occupied the Temple between 1924 – 1973

2)     The Civil Rights work of Rabbi Joachim Prinz who headed the congregation between 1939 – 1977

3)     With specific attention given to activities related to 1963 March on Washington, DC, which was organized with Rabbi Prinz and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as well as Dr. King’s visits to the Temple during that history. The Museum will also create an Oral History Project of living witnesses to the civil rights activities in Newark, New Jersey, as an audio-visual component of The History Museum Café.

4)     The history of its current occupants, The Deliverance Evangelistic and its founder Apostle Arturo Skinner, who organized and lead one of the significant evangelical church movements of the 20th century.

5)     Finally, the History Museum Café proposes to highlight the above history in the context of how the Temple impacted the formation of the Clinton Hill Community.
